Stepped Care+

Stepped care means care according to a step-by-step concept: The first step involves low-threshold counseling services provided by TAFF counselors as well as group measures. If necessary, other counseling or specialist services are involved. In the following stages, clients with increased needs are referred to outpatient therapy or a clinic. The intensity of the services therefore varies depending on the client's needs. Not all mentally distressed refugees need traditional individual therapy; other low-threshold forms of support/relief are often "sufficient".

Individual counseling

Our employees are the first point of contact for refugees with mental health problems. They clarify the need for treatment and then decide how to proceed. In many cases, the low-threshold individual counselling and stabilization provided by TAFF counsellors helps clients to feel better.

The Integration of Individual Counseling and Network Collaboration

Only when additional support is needed is the individual counseling supplemented by low-threshold group offerings or referrals to other counseling institutions. In line with the stepped care approach, counseling or treatment then proceeds to the next level. At this stage, network collaboration and the involvement of partner organizations become increasingly important.
